Bucknell Women's Water Polo Eyes Southern Division Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team will travel to College Park, Md., this Saturday to compete in the Southern Championships. The Bison grabbed the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will play No. 3 Princeton on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The winner of that contest will take on the winner of the matchup between top-seeded Maryland and fourth-seeded George Washington at 6:30 p.m. in a game that will determine the champion of the four-team tournament.

  • Bucknell finished the regular season with an 18-12 record and won eight of its final nine games. The Bison tied for first place in the CWPA Southern Division with Maryland with a 5-1 conference record, but the Terrapins earned the No. 1 seed based on goal differential in games between the two teams this year.
  • With two wins this weekend, Bucknell will post its fourth 20-win season in the last five years.
  • Bucknell has finished in the top three at the Southern Championships five consecutive years. The Bison were the runner-ups last year for the second time in program history.
  • Ten of Bucknell's 12 losses this year have come to ranked opponents. The Bison have faced a total of 11 ranked teams this year.
  • Bucknell has won 41 consecutive games when netting at least 10 goals. The Bison last lost a game when tallying double-figure goals March 9, 2007 at Princeton. The Tigers won that game 15-12.
  • Bucknell has registered 248 assists this season, a figure that ranks second in program history, behind only last year's squad who piled up 259 assists. Kandis Canonica leads this year's team with 59 assists, while Aubrey Rowe is second with 47. It is just the second time two Bison have had at least 40 assists in the same season.
  • Canonica totaled three goals and three assists two weeks ago against Maryland, vaulting her season point total to 113. That figure is a new program record, one better than her 2008 total of 112. the sophomore is third on the team with 54 goals, while her 59 assists are just two shy of her own single-season record (61).
  • Rowe, who has piled up 62 goals and 47 assists, is poised to surpass the previous points record as well. Her 109 points this season ranks third on the Bison ledger. She has 339 career points, placing her just 12 behind Meagan Gins' one-year-old program standard. Rowe already owns the program record for career steals (243).
  • Valentina Rozas leads the Bison with 66 goals this year, tied for the third-most in Bucknell single-season history. The junior needs just four scores to equal Meagan Gins' single-season standard of 70. Rozas is averaging more than two goals per game this season.
  • Junior goalie Alison Carter piled up 33 saves over Bucknell's final three league games, crossing the 400-save plateau for her career in the process. She ranks third in Bison history in saves and leads the team with 145 this year.
  • Rowe is the only Bison player to start all 30 games this year. She has started 71 consecutive games, dating back to the 2007 campaign.
