Or Gil Named Queens College Head Men's Water Polo Coach

FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Former Terrier standout Or Gil has been named head men’s water polo coach at Queens College, it was announced recently by the Flushing, New York school. Queens competes at the Division I level in the sport of water polo.

“It’s an honor that Queens College even considered me for a Division I position,” said Gil. This is a dream come true for me and I’m very excited to get started at Queens. My immediate goal will be to focus on recruiting and improving the team, but I believe that we can compete for a spot in the Eastern Tournament right away.”

Gil, who graduated from St. Francis College with a B.A. in Physical Education,  has had more than 15 years of experience in swimming and water polo. His career began with the Kibbutz Givat Hayim Swimming and Water Polo Club in Israel. From there, Gil moved on to the Israeli Junior and Senior national teams, playing in the Eurpoean Championship Qualifications in 2000-2001.

While attending St. Francis, he was a member for four years (2005-2009) of their NCAA Division I Water Polo and Swimming teams and competed in the NCAA Division I Final Four in 2005. He was also named team captian of the swim team for the 2008-09 season, leading his team to a second place finish at the Northeast Conference championships.

“I would like to thank Irma Garcia and Carl Quigley for recommending me for this position. In addition, Dean Howell and Cheretta Robson spent many hours preparing me prior to the interview process.”

Gil has received recognition from the NY Daily News and WABC News and was a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee at St. Francis. His honors include the 2007-2008 MVP award for swimming, Northeast Conference Fall 2008 Academic Honor Roll, the Good Citizenship Award and the Israeli President's Award.
