Harvard-Brown Game on April 11 to Decide Final Northern Division Seeds
2009 CWPA Northern Division Schedule
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- For Harvard University, the final CWPA Northern Division game of the year will have significance as the Crimson's hopes of claiming the No. 3 seed for the division championship at Connecticut College on April 18-19 will ride on the result of this weekend's Harvard-Brown University game at Wheaton College.
A Brown win gives Connecticut the No. 3 seed, while a Crimson win puts Harvard into the championship as the No. 3 as winning percentage will be used to break a tie between the Camels and Crimson.
Due to Harvard, Brown and Hartwick College playing twice against each other, while Connecticut and Utica faced each other twice, the Crimson, Bears and Hawks have one more game played in the division than the Camels or Pioneers.
Subsequently, the final division seeding will be decided based on winning percentage (wins/games played).
If Harvard wins the game, the Crimson will clinch the No. 3 seed for being 3-3 (.500 winning percentage), .100 better than Connecticut (2-3, .400 winning percentage).
However, a Brown victory over the Crimson will put the Camels into the No. 3 spot as Connecticut (.400) will hold an advantage over a Harvard team which will be 2-4 (.333 winning percentage).
Unlike the other varsity division championships in which seeding determines order of play, Hartwick, Brown, Utica, Harvard and Connecticut will face a new challenge at the Northern Division Championship as the teams will play a round-robin format to decide the division champion and runner-up with the best record claiming the title.
