UC-Davis Lisa Smith loses control of the ball as Utah's Mandy Dunlop closes in

DAVIS, Calif. --  No. 5 University of California-Davis used a 4-1 scoring advantage in the second half to defeat No. 7 University of Utah 6-2 to advance to a meeting with No. 8 University of Arizona at 10:15 a.m. on May 3 in the fifth place game of the 2009 National Collegiate Club Championship.

Leading 2-1 at halftime, the Aggies began to pull away in the third period when Robbie Sims (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) deposited her first goal of the day off a counter with 2:42 left in the period to construct the lead to 3-1.

The margin continued to expand thanks to the UC-Davis counterattack in the fourth period as Lucy Potter (Jr., Berkeley, Calif.) beat the Utah defense on a counter at 4:10 before Sims, who earned Player of the Game accolades for her performance, racked up her second tally of the day off a counter at the 2:02 mark to make it 5-1.

Meredith Muecke (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) cushioned the lead with an advantage goal at the 1:14 mark before Emily Haws (Fr., Redlands, Calif.) netted her second goal of the day with 28 seconds to go after scoring at 2:02 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1 to account for all of the Utes markers.

In cage, Sarah Close (Sr., Salt Lake City, Utah) stopped four shots for Utah, while Elyssa Thome (Sr., Pleasanton, Calif.) and Jenna Bondlow (Fr., Sausauton, Calif.) combined for seven saves.

Utah will conclude its participation at the National Collegiate Club Championship at 9:00 a.m. in the first game on Day 3 of the Championship as the Utes will meet No. 4-nationally ranked University of Michigan in the seventh place game.
