No. 14 Cal State-Chico Blanks No. 18 NYU 10-0 to Finish 13th in 2009 National Collegiate Club Tournament

DAVIS, Calif. --  No. 14-nationally ranked California State University-Chico used a five goal outburst to build a nearly insurmountable lead as the Wildcats bested No. 18 New York University 10-0 to tie for 13th in the final 2009 National Collegiate Club Championship standings at the University of California-Davis.

The Wildcats uncorked their offense in the first 4:30 of play in the first period as Krista Winkler (Sr., Sacramento, Calif.) connected at 5:21 and 2:52, while Melanie McBroom (So., Ripon, Calif.) tallied markers at 5:01 and 2:27 to put Chico ahead 4-0.  Stephanie Wells (Sr., San Jose, Calif.) pushed the lead to 5-0 with 1:03 left in the period with an exclusion goal.

Following a scoreless second period, Chico added three more goals in the third period and two in the fourth to take the 10-goal victory.

Wells earned Player of the Game honors as she finsihed with a hat-trick, while McBroom chipped in a two goals and Winkler finished with four markers.

In cage, Amy Crawford (So., Sacramento, Calif.) picked up the win for Chico with four saves, while Lauren Reilly (So., Huntington Beach, Calif.) recorded four saves for NYU as the Bobcats finish in a tie for 15th in the final standings.
