Recruiting
New Club Members
|
One of the biggest challenges at the club level is attracting new members, especially those with water polo experience. This is even more difficult if the school is small. Listed in this section are a few ideas that will help you get the word out to those that might be interested in participating on your team. New Students High School Mailer Recruiting high school athletes to your campus is fairly simple, although it is labor intensive. The easiest method is to print a flyer about your school with contact numbers in case a prospective student-athlete wants to get more information. You can get a high school database from the CWPA office. The cost is limited to the copying and postage involved in sending the flyer to each high school in the country. High School Competition If you or someone on your team is available to attend a high school game, take some flyers and school applications with you and hand them to the coaches. Typically your admission office on campus will provide you with these materials for free. High School Affiliation All of your current team members went to high school. Have them get in touch with the students at their high school that might be interested in your school. Personal contact is the most important ingredient in the process. Current Students Information Table Set up a table in the student union during freshmen orientation with a flyer that spells out the information for your club. You can set the table up again at the beginning of each term throughout the year as well. Flyers on Campus Print flyers advertising your club and post them around campus, especially at freshmen dorms, the pool, and the gym. Newspaper Articles Take advantage of any free publicity on campus by contacting the sports editor and asking them to do a story on your club. |
