Grant LeBeau (Brown)

LeBeau tallied 17 goals, 11 assists and eight ejections drawn in five games at the MIT Invitational. Picking up the scoring load with returning leading scorer Mike Gartner out with a broken wrist, LeBeau was particularly strong during the Bears’ tilt with Harvard, scoring three of the goals in a four-goal run that gave Brown an 8-7 victory.

Hank Weintraub (Brown)

Weintraub led #20 Brown with 10 goals and seven steals while adding five assists to key the Bears to a 2-2 week. Overall, Brown knocked off MIT 12-11 in double overtime and stopped La Verne 13-7, but fell to the #18 Air Force Academy (11-5 L) and #19 Cal Baptist (17-10 L), as Weintraub tallied at least two goals in each of the Bears' games at the Air Force Invitational.

Grant LeBeau (Brown)

LeBeau netted 10 goals for the Bears. His biggest game came against Johns Hopkins University on September 23 as Brown hosted the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship. He scored five goals, including a one off a penalty shot, against the Bluejays in a 13-10 loss and tacked on four goals versus Connecticut College on September 21 in a 21-5 victory as he leads Brown in goals with 33 this year.

Gerrit Adams (Brown)

Against MIT on September 28, Adams tallied five steals, one block and drew four ejections while smothering the Engineers two-meter offense attempts in an 11-5 win for Brown. In the opening quarter of the game, Adams chipped in two goals as the Bears opened up a 4-0 lead. In 11 games against varsity competition this season, Adams leads the team with 21 ejections drawn and is tied for second in goals with 23.

Patrick St. Cin (Iona)

In a 4-0 week, St. Cin recorded seven goals, five assists and five steals as the Gaels knocked off Queens College (12-11 W), Connecticut College (9-6 W), Harvard University (13-12 OT) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (14-6 W) to improve to 4-0 in CWPA Northern Division play this year and remain a top the division standings. He notched two goals, two assists and two steals against Connecticut College, before netting a goal and two assists in a key win over Harvard. Trailing 10-9 with time ticking away on the game clock, St. Cin scored with two seconds left in regulation to force overtime as the Gaels built a 13-10 advantage in the extra frame to hold off the Crimson. Versus MIT, he broke loose for four goals and an assist with three steals as the Gaels rolled to victory.

Mike Gartner (Brown)

Gartner scored nine goals and drew nine ejections in the Bears' three CWPA games last week. His best game came against #8 St. Francis College as he scored five of Brown's 10 goals and drew six ejections in a 13-10 loss. On the year, he has 23 goals and 25 ejectsion drawn in eight games.

Michael Garcia (Harvard)

Garcia scored the game-winning goal in triple overtime sudden-victory with 54 seconds remaining in the period to down Brown University 8-7. He finished the game with three goals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 



 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Southern Division, Eastern Region

 

9-6-06

Mark Masterson (Bucknell) & John Hornberger (George Washington)

Masterson & Hornberger share Player of the Week honors in the Southern Division, Eastern Region as they led their teams strong out of the gate at the Navy Open. Hornberger scored 14 goals in a four game span, including six versus #18 Santa Clara in a 13-11 slugfest to lead George Washington University to its best start in school history at 4-0. He tacked on hat-tricks in GW's wins over Gannon (16-6 W) and MIT (15-3 W) on the first day of competition, tallied six against the Broncos on Sunday morning and finished the weekend with two more goals in a 10-6 victory over Iona on Sunday afternoon. Masterson scored a total of 12 goals in four games last week and was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday for his performance. He led the Bison to a 3-1 record at the season-opening Navy Open as the driver netted three goals in each game over the weekend and tacked on a pair of assists as he leads the team with 14 points. Masterson also recorded seven steals and drew five ejections over the weekend, including five steals in a 9-8 win over Santa Clara.

Eric Vreeland (Princeton)

A utility player, Vreeland scored 11 goals and added eight assists in five games at the Princeton Invitational as the Tigers finished 4-1 and scored 13 or more goals in all five games. His best performance of the week came against #8 Pacific University as he registered a weekend-high five goals in a narrow 16-15 loss. He also added three goals and four assists in a win against Iona (17-7 W) and two goals in a win against George Washington (13-6 W).

 

9-19-06

George Naugton (Navy)

A goalie, Naughton was a wall between the pipes for the Naval Academy at the prestigious NorCal Open as the Midshipmen finished with a 2-2 record to place 10th. Navy, ranked 10th in last week's Top 20 Varsity National Poll, defended its ranking as the Midshipmen handled #12 UC-Irvine 14-9 and #13 Long Beach State 9-8, but fell to #4 Stanford 11-4 and #10 UC-Santa Barbara 14-11. He made 10 saves and allowed six goals as Navy recorded its first ever win in five tries against UC-Irvine, and added 10 saves as the Midshipmen knocked off Long Beach for only the second time in 11 meetings. Overall, he finished the weekend with 44 saves (.550 save percentage) against some of the nation's best teams as he notched 12 saves versus Stanford and 11 stops against UC-Santa Barbara.

Sean McCreery (Johns Hopkins)

McCreery had six goals and four assists versus George Washington in a 20-11 victory. He added four goals versus both Brown University and Harvard University as he finished the week with 14 goals in four games.

Jason Rechel (Bucknell)

In a 4-1 week, Rechel helped the Bison go 4-1 as Bucknell knocked off Whittier (11-3 W), #19 Redlands (8-7 W), Cal Lutheran (16-7 W) and Claremont Mudd-Scripps (12-4 W), while falling to #13 Pepperdine (11-8 L). Against Whittier, he tallied two goals, two assists, a steal and drew an ejection before registering four goals, an assist and a steal versus Redlands. He concluded the weekend by tallying four goals, an assist and a steal against Cal Luthern; two goals and an assist with four ejections drawn versus Claremont Mudd Scripps; and a goal and an assist with an ejection drawn against Pepperdine. On the year, he leads Bucknell with 21 assists, while ranking second in goals (33), points (54) and steals (25).

Eric Vreeland (Princeton)

Vreeland led Princeton to a 2-1 weekend with league wins versus Johns Hopkins University (14-12 W) and George Washington University (17-6 W) last week as he scored five goals in both victories. He finished the week with 11 goals, as he added a solo score in a 10-8 loss to the United States Naval Academy, to raise his season goal total to 44.

Sean McCreery (Johns Hopkins)

McCreery earnedMost Valuable Player honors for leading Johns Hopkins to the title at the Division III Eastern Championship hosted by Penn State Behrend College on October 21-22. 9-26-06

Charles Doane (Gannon)

Doane led Gannon to a 20-12 victory at Washington & Jefferson College on September 23. Against the Presidents, Doane scored eight goals on 13 shots, drew five penalties and handed out an assist, as he has tallied five hat tricks in six matches and has scored seven or more goals twice.

 

10-2-06

Andrew Schonhoff (Mercyhurst)

Schonhoff recorded eight goals, three assists, three steals and four drawn ejections to become Mercyhurst's all-time leading goal scorer as the Lakers defeated a pair of CWPA teams, Gannon University and Washington & Jefferson College, 18-17 and 12-6, respectively. Against Gannon, he scored five goals with one assists, two steals and two drawn ejections as he tied the all-time goal scoring record at Mercyhurst with 69. Versus Washington & Jefferson in the night-cap, he had three goals with two assists, one steal, and two drawn ejections as he finished the game with 72 career goals.

Richie DiLoreto (Gannon)

DiLoreto led Gannon to a 2-0 record with wins over Penn State Behrend College (22-10 W) and Mercyhurst College (13-10 W). His best game of the week came against Mercyhurst as he scored five goals to raise his season scoring totals to 16 goals and nine assists with 24 steals.
