4-21 Bronwen Knox, Hartwick College Freshman
defender Bronwen Knox (St. Paul’s/Brisbane, Australia) led the 18th-ranked
Hartwick College women’s water polo team to a 3-1 record at the Long
Beach State University 49er Tournament last weekend. On Saturday, Knox
had four goals and two assists to help the Hawks (22-8) earn an 11-6
victory over University of the Pacific. She followed with two goals
and an assist in a 9-7 triumph over 13th-ranked San Diego State University.
On Sunday, Knox tallied three goals and two assists in a 9-3 victory
over 16th-ranked Arizona State University. She then contributed two
goals in a 9-5 loss to fifth-ranked Long Beach State University.
4-14 Anna Transue, Hartwick College Sophomore utility Anna Transue (L.D. Bell/Bedford, Texas) helped the Hartwick College women’s water polo team finish the regular season with a 7-0 record in CWPA Northern Division play. Transue tallied five goals and five assists in victories over Utica College and Queens College on Saturday. She had four goals, three assists, three steals and one drawn ejection in a 13-1 victory over Utica College. Transue then registered one goal, two assists and one drawn ejection in a 15-5 triumph over Queens. In 16 games this season, Transue has contributed 22 goals, 17 assists, eight steals and five drawn ejections.
3-31 Keri James, Hartwick College Sophomore utility Keri James (Sacred Heart/Wellington, New Zealand) led the 15th-ranked Hartwick College women’s water polo team to an 11-5 victory over Santa Clara University on Saturday. James had four goals and two assists to pace the Hawks (14-4) to their 11th straight victory. In 13 games this season, James has scored 32 points on 20 goals and 12 assists. She also has contributed eight steals and eight drawn ejections.
3-17 Bronwen Knox, Hartwick College Freshman center Bronwen Knox (St. Paul's/Brisbane, Australia) led the 15th-ranked Hartwick College women's water polo team (11-4) to a 3-0 record last week in CWPA Northern Division Conference play. On Saturday, Knox had one goal and two assists in a 19-5 victory over Utica College. She then registered four goals, one assist, eight steals and one drawn ejection in an 18-8 triumph over Brown University. On Sunday, Knox had seven goals, one assist, seven steals and one drawn ejection in an 11-3 victory over Harvard University.
3-10 Jessica Sanchez, Hartwick College Freshman driver Jessica Sanchez (Miami Springs/Miami, Fla.) led the Hartwick College women’s water polo team (8-4) to a 3-0 record on Saturday. In three games, she registered seven goals, three assists, seven steals and three drawn ejections. Sanchez had three goals and one steal in a 17-3 victory over Queens College, and followed with three goals, three assists, three steals and three drawn ejections in a 22-1 triumph against Utica College. She contributed one goal and three steals in a 20-1 victory over Siena College.
2-24 Olivia Colebourne, Hartwick College Sophomore goalie Olivia Colebourne (Rangitoto/Tauranga, New Zealand) led the 14th-ranked Hartwick College women’s water polo team to a 2-1 record last weekend at the Bucknell University Invitational. In three games, she had 14 saves, three steals, three assists and two goals for the Hawks (5-4).
2-17 Kate Chambers, Hartwick College Senior driver Kate Chambers (Wellington/Wellington New Zealand) led the 15th-ranked Hartwick College women’s water polo team to a 1-1 record last week. Chambers registered one goal, one assist, one steal and three drawn ejections in a 9-7 loss to fourth-ranked Loyola Marymount University in Saturday’s opener. She then contributed three goals, one assist, two steals and one drawn ejection in a 13-6 victory over University of Redlands (Calif.) in the second game. Chambers, an AWPCA All-American last season, has tallied eight goals and three assists through six games this season.
2-10 Bronwen Knox, Hartwick College Freshman center Bronwen Knox (St. Paul's School/Brisbane, Australia) led the Hartwick College women's water polo team to an eighth-place finish at the UC-San Diego Triton Invitational on Sunday. In four games, Knox registered seven goals, two assists and 14 steals. She also drew two 4-meter penalties and one kickout for the Hawks (2-2). Knox had two goals, three
steals and a drawn kickout in a 5-3 loss to 12th-ranked University of
Michigan on Sunday. She registered one goal, one assist and three steals
to help Hartwick take a 5-4 victory over 16th-ranked Arizona State in
Sunday's opener. On
Saturday, Knox contributed three goals, one assist and two steals in
a 7-6 loss to 14th-ranked UC-San Diego. She had one goal, six steals
and two drawn 4-meter penalties to lead the Hawks to a 5-4 victory over
18th-ranked UC-Irvine.
4-14 Meg Blitzer, Bucknell University Senior co-captain Meg Blitzer helped Bucknell finish out the regular season league play with a winning weekend over Salem International (11-1), Univ. of Maryland (16-3), and George Washington (9-8). In helping Bucknell establish a single season record 20th win for the year, Blitzer scored six goals, assisted once and had one steal against GW at their pool including scoring the game winning goal. Blitzer scored five goals against Maryland along with assisting once and stealing the ball four times. She netted two goals against Salem earlier in the weekend. With her weekend efforts, Blitzer became Bucknell's all-time team record holder for career points with 267. She also holds the career goals team record with 190. She is eight goals away from tieing her own record for goals in a season currently having scored 58 goals this year. She currently is tied for ninth in the nation in goals scored.
2-24 Meagan Gins, Bucknell University Meagan Gins erupted in the Bision's first game of the weekend against George Washington, scoring six goals to lead all scorers. Throughout the weekend she would score eleven goals with four assists. Gins has been instrumental in Bucknell's 8-1 start to the season with big performances in Bucknell's early wins over Brown and GW. She is second in scoring with eighteen goals and six assists and leads the team in ejections drawn with sixteen.
4-21 Shana Welch, University of Michigan University of Michigan sophomore Shana Welch (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West HS) set four Michigan records to lead the Wolverines to a 3-1 record at the Long Beach Invite. Welch Set a U-M record with eight goals against Cal State Bakersfield while recording her 12th hat trick of the season. In the process, she also set the Michigan mark for points in a season with 77 and upped her season goals record to 67. Welch went on to score her season-record 13th hat trick against UC Irvine, boosting her season totals to 81 points on 71 goals and 10 assists. Over Michigan's four games at the Long Beach Invite, Welch scored 14 goals on 24 shots and added an assist and three steals.
4-7 Kristin Zernicke, Indiana University Sophomore Kristin Zernicke led the Hoosiers to a perfect 3-0 mark at the Fluid Five Challenge in Bloomington, Ind. For the weekend, Zernicke was 6-of-8 shooting (.750) to go along with four assists, six steals and on drawn ejection. Zernicke scored on her only two shots of the game in the opening half against the Rams of Colorado State. She also added an assist in the victory. The sophomore attacker scored IU’s first two goals in a 4-3 victory over No. 14 UC-Davis. She also added a team-high three steals in the win. Against No. 10 San Jose State, Zernicke turned in another stellar performance, helping the Hoosiers revenge a 7-6 loss earlier this season to the Spartans. She finished with two goals to go along with a team-high three assists and three steals. Zernicke also drew an ejection in transition in the win. On the year, Zernicke leads the Hoosiers with 38 steals on the season. She also ranks second in assists with 23, sixth in goals with 17 and fourth in drawn ejections with 10. 3-24 Brittany Yost, Penn State Behrend College Utility Brittany Yost helped lead the Penn State Behrend Lions to their first and second wins of the season over Utica College (11-3) and Colorado College (7-5) during the Behrend Invitational. With the team trying for its third win in a row, Yost scored 3 goals in a close loss to Siena College (8-7). Yost also scored a goal in the loss against Iona, but helped Behrend bounce back with 2 goals in a second win over Utica College. During the Behrend Invitational, Yost tallied 10 goals, 14 steals, 5 assists, and 5 drawn kickouts. She has scored a minimum of 2 goals in each of the last 6 games and has a streak of 14 games with at least 1 steal, with a game high of 5, which she has accomplished twice. 3-10 Shana Welch, University of Michigan University of Michigan sophomore Shana Welch (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West HS) led the Wolverines to a 6-0 record with 19 goals, including four hat tricks goals in the CWPA Western Division. Welch posted three goals against Grove City before tying a Michigan record with six tallies to go along with two assists and a steal against Washington & Jefferson. She also notched hat tricks with four goals against Slippery Rock and three goals against Mercyhurst. Over Michigan's six games, Welch scored 19 goals on 27 shots, handed out four assists, recorded four steals and drew a pair of ejections. Through 21 games this season, Welch leads the Wolverines with 44 goals and has recorded eight hat tricks this year.
3-3 Kandace Waldthaler, Indiana University Senior Kandace Waldthaler helped the Hoosiers to a 10th-place finish and a 3-2 mark at the Daktronics Gaucho Invitational. Waldthaler had seven goals in the Invitational for the Cream and Crimson to go along with three assists, four steals and 11 drawn ejections. She was 7-of-12 shooting on the weekend. The Hoosiers picked up victories over Cal State-San Bernardino (14-4), No. 15 UC-San Diego (7-4) and No. 10 San Diego State (7-6).
The Fairfield, Calif., native had her best game of the weekend against No. 10 San Diego State. Waldthaler notched her ninth career hat trick in the match up to go along with an assist, three steals and five drawn ejections. One of those drawn ejections was a four-meter penalty, which she converted for the goal. She helped the Hoosiers over come a pair of two-goal deficits against the Aztecs. The victory over the Aztecs was the fourth time this season the Hoosiers have defeated a team ranked in the top 10. Waldthaler also notched a
pair of goals in victories over Cal State-San Bernardino and No. 15
UC-San Diego. For the season, she leads the Hoosiers in goals with 16
and drawn kickouts with 23. 2-17 Jessica Goldner, Indiana University Senior goalkeeper Jessica Goldner made 46 total saves and picked up her 29th, 30th and 31st career double digit save games at the Stanford Invitational. The Los Altos Hills, Calif., native led the Hoosiers to a fourth-place finish with a 2-2 record. Goldner led the Hoosiers to upset victories over No. 6 California (8-5) and No. 7 Hawaii (8-7) on the first day of competition. She had a season-high 16 saves in the victory over the Golden Bears and 11 stops against the Rainbow Wahine. Goldner led a Hoosier defense that shutout California in the second half of play to propel the squad to victory. The wins were not only the Hoosiers’ first ever victories against Cal and Hawaii, but the first time in school history that IU had defeated a pair of ranked opponents on the same day. No. 6 Cal was also the highest ranked foe IU had beaten in the program’s annals. The Hoosiers fell to No. 2 USC, 9-5, on Sunday. Goldner had seven saves in the loss as the Hoosiers took second in Bracket ‘A’ at the Stanford Invite. The Cream and Crimson dropped an 11-4 match to No. 3 Stanford in the third-place game. Goldner finished with 12 saves in the defeat, including a four-meter penalty shot save. 2-10 Shana Welch, University of Michigan University of Michigan sophomore Shana Welch (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West HS) led the Wolverines to a 4-1 record over the weekend, including a 5-4 victory over No. 14 UC San Diego and a seventh place finish at the Triton Invitational. Welch started the weekend with a pair of goals against the Tritons before scoring five goals on the first day of the Triton Invitational. Welch had one tally, two steals and three drawn ejections in a 4-3 loss to No. 13 UC Davis and notched her first hat trick of the season with four goals, an assist and one steal in a 9-6 win over Cal-State Bakersfield. In the second day of the tournament, Welch led Michigan to a 6-3 victory over No. 16 Arizona State with three goals, one steal and a pair of drawn ejections and set a school record with five steals in a 5-3 win against No. 15 Hartwick. Over U-M's five games, Welch scored 10 goals on 21 shots, had one assist, nine steals and drew seven ejections. Welch currently leads Michigan with 15 goals and is also the team leader with 11 steals.
2-3 Kandace Waldthaler, Indiana University Senior Kandace Waldthaler led the Hoosiers to a 2-1 record in the season-opening Michigan Invitational. Waldthaler recorded the eighth hat trick of her career in leading the Hoosiers past rival and No. 9 Michigan, 7-6, on Saturday. The Fairfield, Calif., native scored the first two goals of the match, pushing IU to the early advantage. She also scored to give IU a 5-4 advantage in the fourth period. Waldthaler also had four kickouts earned against the Wolverines. For the weekend, she finished with five goals on nine shots. Waldthaler leads the Hoosiers in goals (5) and kickouts earned (5) on the season. Waldthaler also registered goals against No. 1 UCLA and Colorado State. In a 13-3 victory over the Rams, she had a goal, an assist and earned a four-meter penalty shot for the Hoosiers, drawing the ejection.
