Great Plains Division Player of the Week

10-21 Ross Krawczyk, University of Nebraska
Junior goalie Ross Krawczyk has provided the strong base for the Huskers much improved defense. Demonstrating his prowess in both shallow and deep goals last weekend, Krawczyk led his team to an unprecedented winning streak. Krawczyk averaged 18 blocks per game and blocked two four meter penalty shots.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Heartland Division Player of the Week

10-21 Elad Rachevsky, Macalester College
Macalester first-year Elad Rachevsky helped the led the Scots' offensive attack once again, netting 18 goals, assisted on 4 more and drew 10 ejections. Rachevsky also had 2 field blocks and 8 steals.

10-7 Jared Rudolph, Macalester College
Macalester's Jared Rudolph really stepped up his play at this weekends tournament at St. John's. He contributed 8 goals, 4 assists, 11 steals, drew 2 ejections and had 1 field block.
Rudolph also won 15 of the 16 sprints to give the Scots extra scoring opportunities.

9-30 Elad Rachevsky, Macalester College
Freshman Elad Rachevsky led the Scots to a 2-2 record at the Heartland Division's opening tournament at Grinnell. In the four games Rachevsky scored 33 goals and assisted on 7 others.jections. Defensively he added 8 steals and drew 6 ejections.


 

        

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mid Atlantic Division Player of the Week

10-28 Kevin Harty, Villanova University
During the final game of the regular season, senior Kevin Harty was instrumental in defeating the University of Pennsylvania Quakers 16-15. During the game he scored a career high five goals and drew an additional ejection which was converted for a sixth goal. He also played flawless defense, finishing the game without getting scored upon or committing a major foul.

10-21 Mike Gordon, Villanova University
Mike Gordon helped lead the Wildcats to an undefeated run this past weekend, including a win over league-rival Penn State. During three games, he scored a combined 11 goals, one third of the team’s total output. In addition, he drew another 11 ejections, establishing himself as one of the division’s best drivers. On the defensive end, he was equally effective. He earned four steals, while failing to get scored on or ejected even one time. His biggest game came against Penn State, where he drew seven of his eleven total ejections and scored four of the team’s nine goals.

10-7 Tom Hallett, Villanova University
Tom Hallett anchored a defense that watched the Wildcats extend their overall record to 11-2 with wins over Penn, Army, and Columbia. In doing so, Hallett blocked a total of 54 shots and allowed 39 goals giving him a save percentage of 58%. What is even more astounding is the fact that if you remove the only off-game he had against Northern Virginia, he blocked over 75% of the shots taken against him in the remaining three games.

9-30 Greg Fox, Villanova University
Greg Fox set himself apart from the pack this week with an incredible performance running an offense for the Wildcats that saw them push their overall record to 7 and 1. During a weekend that witnessed Villanova win the 19th Annual Wildcat Invitational, Fox led his team to four straight victories. He was instrumental in 22 of the team’s 60 goals, garnering 15 assists and scoring another seven. He also drew four ejections himself. His ability to set up the offense and deliver the ball made the difference in key victories, including the 11-10 win over local rival, Greater Philadelphia, where he had a career high nine assists.


 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Missouri Valley Division Player of the Week

9-23 Sam Lape, Lindenwood University
Playing in his first collegiate games this past weekend, freshman Sam Lape served as speaking captain, starter and leading goal scorer for Lindenwood University during its home Missouri Valley Division tournament. In its last game of the weekend, Lindenwood played 2003 Great Plains Division champion Western Illinois University, and fell by a score of 11-10. However, Lape scored 7 of his team's 10 goals, keeping the score close throughout. In addition, his defensive play was excellent in leading Lindenwood to wins over Northern Illinois, Washington University and Lindenwood University "B".

New York Division Player of the Week

10-14 Mark Hogan, United States Military Academy
At this past weekend's combined regional tournament, Mark Hogan amassed an impressive total of 44 saves, sporting a 75% save percentage in each game. Sophomore Hogan is in his inaugural year as the starting goalkeeper for the Army team, and hails from the traditional California water polo powerhouse, Long Beach Wilson HS.

Northwest Division Player of the Week

10-28 Noah Saltman, University of Oregon
Freshman goalie Noah Saltman tallied eight saves and three steals in the Ducks' victory over the Huskies. He anchored a young defense that held opponents to an average of 5.75 goals for the second tournament of the year. He also shared time with our other three goalies, Josh Leitner, Derek Ventling, and Geoff Smith, which held WWU, WSU, and UP to an average of 5.33 goals per game.

10-14 Mark Welch, University of Oregon
First-year graduate student Mark Welch anchored an inexperienced but talented offense in the first games of the Ducks' 2004 season. In two games, the starting two-meter set scored 17 goals, made 6 steals, and forced 2 kick-outs. His superb athletic talent coupled with a great attitude allow Mark to help in the development of the numerous freshman on this young team.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ohio Valley Division Player of the Week

10-28 Nick Foy, Miami University (OH)
Nick Foy scored 13 goals and had 8 assists at the Indiana University Inviatational tournament on Oct 23-24. He led Miami to a huge victory over conference rival Ohio U by a 17 - 2 margin. Nick, one of two team seniors, will provides the experience to help move Miami toward another Ohio Valley Championship.

10-14 Garrett Smith, Miami University (OH)
At the Ohio Valley regional at Dayton University, Garrett scored 16 goals, had 13 steals, and 5 assists. His strong play led Miami to another #1 seed at the Ohio Valley Championship and a provides great outlook for the remainder of the season.

10-7 Kyle Perry, Miami University (OH)
At the Kyle McGarity Invitational at Miami University, Kyle Perry showed his dominance at driving and ball control. He drew 20 ejections from Miami opponents in four games, scored 8 goals, had 13 steals, and led Miami to a fourth place finish in one of the top invitationals in the country. Perry, the Ohio Valley MVP in 2002 and 2003, looks to be a strong candidate for the award in 2004.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pacific Coast Division Player of the Week

9-30 Nick Rex, St. Mary's College
Nick Rex has recorded 40 saves in the last two tournaments St. Mary's has competed in, including two 13 save games, one 12 save game and a four meter defensive stop. Rex also has 8 steals. He was named Second Team All-Conference, and Honorable Mention All-American in 2003.

Texas Division Player of the Week

10-21 Tom Andrew, University of Texas
Junior Tom Andrew has led the Texas water polo team to an 8–0 start. In the first two CWPA Tournaments Andrew has had 16 goals, 14 assists, and 15 steals. Andrew also prevents his opponents from scoring with excellent defense. Andrew has an impressive work out ethic. He is always one of the first to arrive at practice and always gives 100%. Andrew leads by setting an example at practice and at Tournaments.

10-14 Brian Conover, Baylor University
Senior Brian Conover is the starting goalie and anchor of the Baylor men's team. Off to their best start in the history of the program, the Bears enter the division championship ranked third, behind traditional Texas Division powers Texas and Texas A&M, due in large part to the great defense of Conover. Brian has allowed an average of 7 or less goals per game in the first two tournaments. Brian has also had an average of 16 or more blocks per game.

9-30 Zach Gentry, Baylor University
Zack Gentry is a true freshman who lead the Baylor University to its best ever start, with a perfect 4-0 record at the first Texas Division tournament in College Station. Baylor scored 54 goals in the tourney, 16 by Gentry. In addition, he also chipped in 14 assists. Gentry scored the winning goal in the 11-10 win against Rice, a game that required two sudden death frames.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Heartland Division Player of the Week

5-3 Jackie DeLuca, Macalester College
In the Collegiate III National Championship tournament DeLuca led the Scots offensive attack with 7 goals, 17 ejections drawn and 4 assists. She also added 5 steals for good measure in being named to the Championships All-Tournament team

4-19 Elena Bulat, Macalester College
The first-year player continued to rapidly improve in the goal leading Macalester to the Heartland Regional Championship. Bulat recorded 10 saves in a win against Carthage, 6 in her first-career shut-out versus Knox and 10 in the champiopnship game against Wheaton. Bulat made 7 saves in the championship game with the Scots playing man-down.

3-22 Hayley Campbell, Macalester College
In Macalester's 13-1 victory over the University of Minnesota, The senior co-captain scored 7 goals, assisted on 2 others and recorded 2 steals. She helped the Scots avenge an early 7-6 loss to the Gophers.

3-15 Jackie DeLuca, Macalester College
The Scots first-year 2-meter player had a stellar week as Macalester traveled west for Spring break. Over the course of the week (11 games) DeLuca led the Scots offense by netting 13 goals, drawing 17 ejections and serving up 10 assists. She also helped on the defensive side by earning 6 steals.

3-4 Jackie DeLuca, Macalester College
Freshman Jackie DeLuca led the Scots to a 4-0 record at the Heartland Division tournament this past weekend at Carleton College. In the four games played, DeLuca created greater than half of the Scots’ scoring opportunities from the two-meter position, by leading the team with a total of 14 assists, as well as 3 goals of her own. DeLuca also led the team in kickouts drawn with 7, and was third in the team in steals with 7.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mid Atlantic Division Player of the Week

4-7 Rebecca Carroll, University of Pennsylvania
Senior co-captain Rebecca Carroll ended her career as a Quaker by bringing Penn a 10-1 record and it's first ever division title. In three games, Carroll recorded a team high ten goals along with six assists and five steals. In the championship game, Rebecca scored a game high five goals, converting all four of Penn's six-on-five chances. She also added two assists and three steals. Penn was able to defeat defending champions Virginia 9-8 in sudden death overtime and will be traveling to the National Championship to represent the Mid Atlantic Division.

3-25 Laura Sander, University of Pennsylvania
First year medical student Laura Sander was a huge part of Penn's success this weekend. Offensively she led the Quakers with 12 goals and added 4 assists. Sander also led the team on the defensive end with 15 steals, as the team compiled 73 steals in four games. Thanks to her efforts, Penn was able to finish with its best ever regular season finish at 7-1, securing the second seed going into Mid Atlantic Championships.

3-4 Sarah Dotters-Katz, University of Pennsylvania
Junior Sarah Dotters-Katz was huge part of a perfect 4-0 weekend for the University of Pennsylvania. She led a very balanced offensive attack with nine goals, as she split time at two-meter offense. In the first game of the tournament she led the Quakers by scoring a goal in each quarter of a tough 11-10 win over Penn State. Dotters-Katz scored five more goals as Penn swept West Chester (15-8 and 12-4) and IUP (11-3).

2-12 Oveida Norris, University of Pennsylvania
Senior co-captain Oveida Norris had an outstanding effort in last weekend's Ivy League Championships. In her first games at two meter-offense, she was able to compile nine goals and five assists, while drawing five ejections and one four-meter penalty in four games of play. Her contributions on defense also led the team with 11 steals as she split time in two meter-defense. Against Cornell in the last game of the weekend, Norris tallied three goals, four assists, three steals, and drew four ejections.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Midwest Division Player of the Week

4-22 Hillary Robnick, Miami University (OH)
Miami University junior Hillary Robnick led Miami’s ‘A’ team to victory at the Midwest championship tournament. Over the course of the tournament, she only gave up six goals, four against Miami’s ‘B’ team, and two against runner up Notre Dame. Hillary also posted one complete game shutout. She also tallied nine steals and four assists from the cage. She looks to be ready to lead Miami's women's team as they head to Cal Poly for Nationals
in two weeks.

4-1 Hillary Robnick, Miami University (OH)
Junior goalie, Hillary Robnick, led the Miami (OH) "A" team to a record of 4-0, including a victory over longtime rival Michigan State at The Purdue Boilermaker Invite this past weekend. In goal, she blocked two four-meter penalty shots and also recorded one complete game shut-out. She recorded 33 saves, while allowing only 12 goals. Robnick also posted four steals, and assisted on three goals.

2-12 Brigette Alge, University of Notre Dame
The University of Notre Dame played this past weekend at the Spartan Mini Invitational at Michigan State and came home with a 2-1 record after playing three top ten opponents. Alge led the impressive Irish defense as it held No. 6 Purdue and No. 8 Miami OH to six goals apiece and No. 2 Michigan State to eigh goals. Alge's save totals increased as the weekend went on, putting up 7 blocks against the tough Spartan attack, 12 blocks against Purdue and ended the weekend by stonewalling the Redhawks 14 times. The season will continue to look bright for the Irish if Alge continues to anchor the Irish's shutdown defense like she did this weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

New England Division Player of the Week

3-4 Lauren Taft, Yale University
In the four games in the New England Division this weekend, she tallied 26 saves, 2 steals, and 2 assists, and allowed only 15 goals. She also completed her first shutout of the season against Wesleyan (final score: 11-0). Yale went 4-0 on the weekend, including a 7-4 victory over Dartmouth, 2003 division champs.

2-12 Acacia Clark, Yale University
In three games at the Ivy Championship this weekend, Yale's Acacia Clark scored seven goals, had two assists, drew two kickouts, and one four-meter penalty. She also won eight sprints and was named first team All-Ivy. Yale finished in third place at the championship, the highest placing of any club team at the event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

New York Division Player of the Week

4-22 Courtney Hargrave, New York University
NYU's senior co-captain, Courtney Hargrave lead The Lady Bobcats to an undefeated regular season and an undefeated weekend at the New York Division Championships. In her four games, Hargrave tallied 18 goals, 9 assists, forced 16 steals and drew 3 kickouts, while only allowing 3 turnovers and being ejected 5 times. Her outstanding weekend helped crown NYU as the 2004 New York Division Champions.

4-7 Courtney Hargrave, New York University
Senior co-captain, Courtney Hargrave led the Lady Bobcats to a perfect 4-0 record this past weekend at Cornell University. Hargrave tallied 17 goals on 21 shots, registering 10 assists and 13 steals while drawing 6 kickouts. She leads the New York Division in virtually every statistical category and has been the leading goal scorer of the New York Division since NYU water polo's inception in the spring of 2002.

3-4 Lauren McCullough, New York University
Junior Lauren McCullough had one of the finest all-around tournaments in NYU history, registering 14 goals, 14 assists, drawing 12 kick outs and recording 14 steals this weekend at Bloomsburg Univerrsity. The Bobcats went 4-0 on the weekend and hold the inside track for the No. 1 seed at the division championship, which they will host on April 17-18.

Pacific Coast Division Player of the Week

4-1 Shannon Heidorn, University of California, Davis
Freshman Shannon Heidorn showed great poise and leadership for UC Davis in what was an extremely physical and rough weekend of water polo. Shannon scored six goals during the tournament but it was her defense at two-meters that kept the Aggies in many of the games and even gave UC Davis an opportunity to beat San Jose State, as the game was tied at halftime. Shannon's great speed in the water also helped the Aggies push the ball into the front court and produced many counterattack goals.

3-11 Tracey Bassett, University of California, Davis
Tracy Bassett scored 15 goals in four games this for UC Davis at the CSU Hayward Invitational tournament this weekend. Bassett also chipped in 9 drawn ejections on the defensive end for the Aggies. She assisted on two goals in the tournament championship game and provided her team with excellent defense throughout the weekend.

2-12 Katie O'Neil, University of California, Davis
Katie O'Neil averaged three goals per game goals at UC Davis's home invitational. She had a team high five goals against Chico State. Katie is a very versatile player and can play any position offensively and defensively and helps the team through her great speed and excellent ball handling.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Southeast Division Player of the Week

4-16 Heather Daniels, Florida State University

Junior Heather Daniels turned in her most complete performance of the season this past weekend at the University of North Carolina Easter Invitational. She was the cornerstone of the Seminole defense, while also contributing consistently on offense. Heather's best performance of the tournament came in the Third Place game. After East Carolina University had gone on a two goal run, Heather tallied a pair of consecutive goals in the third period to kill the ECU run. Heather then turned her focus to the defensive end where she was an instrumental part of shutting out the Pirates for most of the second half giving the 'Noles a 9-3 victory. The Seminoles are now 5-1-1 against teams ranked in the CWPA Top 20 Club poll.

 

4-1 Lisa Satill, Florida State University

Freshman Lisa Satill turned in a solid performance this past weekend at the Southeast Division Regional. She was an instrumental part of the Seminole defense, and provided an offensive spark in crucial situations. Lisa's best performance of the tournament came against conference rival Emory. After Emory had posted a 2-0 lead, Lisa tallied 2 consecutive goals in the third period to tie the game. Lisa then turned her energy to the defensive end where she was an instrumental part of shutting out the Eagles in the second half giving the 'Noles a 4-2 victory. The Seminoles are now 5-1-1 against teams ranked in the CWPA Top 20 Club poll.

 

3-4 Jessica Frizell, Emory University

Junior hole set and co-captain, Jessica Frizell, continued to be the cornerstone of the Emory Eagles’ offense at their home invitational this past weekend, where they went 3-0. In those three games, she scored 16 goals, had 5 assists, drew 5 ejections and was awarded one four-meter shot. She also excelled on the defensive end of the pool, accumulating an impressive 9 steals for the weekend. The Eagles are now 6-1-0 for the spring season and are anxious for the chance to battle it out in the Southeast Division in Clearwater, Fla. on March 27/28th.

2-12 Lainey Tobin, Florida State University

Florida State University freshman goaltender, Lainey Tobin (Miami, FL), turned in a stellar performance this past weekend at the University of South Florida Invitational. She was the cornerstone of the stingy Seminole defense, allowing only 15 goals over 4 games. Lainey opened the tournament with a shutout against conference rival, Emory's B squad. She followed up that performance with a brilliant game against the #4 ranked University of Florida, in which the Seminoles shocked the heavily favored Gators with a 6-6 tie. In the Tournament semifinals, Tobin had a dominating performance, in a 3-2 upset of the #13 ranked Emory Eagles. In the championship game, Tobin had 11 saves, including one in the final 30 seconds to preserve an 8-7 victory over the #4 Florida Gators. The Seminoles are now 4-0-1 against teams ranked in the CWPA Top 20 Club poll.

 

1-29 Tania Echevarria Valenzuela, Florida State University

Florida State University sophomore, Tania Echevarria Valenzuela (Trujillo Alto, PR), turned in a dominating performance this past weekend at the Seminoles' home invitational. She led the Seminoles in scoring with 16 goals, and was second on the team in steals with 9, contributing heavily to the Seminoles 4-1 start to the season. Tania closed the tournament with a career day. In the 3rd place game against the University of Arizona, Tania posted a career high 7 goals, including the game winner with 11 seconds left in the contest. The Seminoles' two victories over the visiting Wildcats, were the team's first ever against a program ranked in the CWPA Top 20 poll.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Southwest Division Player of the Week

4-7 Madeline Wessel, University of Colorado
Junior Madeline Wessel led the Colorado Buffaloes to a 3-1 record at CU's home tournament in Boulder. She tallied 22 goals over the weekend, with 6 coming against ranked opponent Arizona. Maddy contributed on both sides of the ball with 9 assists, 7 steals and 4 drawn ejections. As the teams' two-meter offense, she helped Colorado outscore it's opponents 50-20 in their three wins on the weekend.

2-12 Linda Taylor, University of Colorado
Junior goalkeeper Linda Taylor led the Buffaloes to a third place finish at the UC Davis Invitational. Taylor held opponents to an average of 3.8 goals per game, boasting 9 clutch saves in the Buffs 6-3 victory over Fresno State in the third place game. Linda was also a critical component in keeping the Buffs in their semifinal game against UC Davis A, posting 11 saves and 2 steals in the 4-2 loss. Colorado's visit to Davis was the team's first ever non-conference tournament and the team recorded wins over UC Davis B (5-1), Oregon State (11-2) and Fresno State (6-3).


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Texas Division Player of the Week

4-22 Julia Follick, Rice University
Rice University junior Julia Follick helped lead the Owls to their second straight CWPA Division title in San Antonio, TX this past weekend. Follick netted 7 goals over the weekend (including 4 crucial goals in a tightly contested championship game against Trinity University), along with 6 steals and 5 drawn ejections. As the team's utility player, Follick helped Rice University outscore it's opponents 24-10 as the Owls finished its season with a perfect division record of 11-0. Rice will travel to San Luis Obispo, CA on April 30th to compete at the CWPA Collegiate Club Nationals.

4-1 Jess Schumer, Rice University
Rice University Junior Jess Schumer had a breakout tournament at the inaugural University of Houston water polo tournament this weekend. Schumer netted 12 goals and 12 steals while winning all 16 sprints as Rice University went 4-0 in the second round of Texas Divisional play. As the team's primary driver, Schumer was an integral part of the Owls' offensive scheme that outscored its opponents 46-11.

2-26 Alex Woodruff, Rice University
Rice University sophomore Alex Woodruff enjoyed a stellar season opener this weekend at Texas A&M. Woodruff scored 9 goals and had 8 assists for the Owls, as Rice University went on to complete a 4-0 sweep in the first round of Texas Division play. As two-meter defender, Woodruff had a tournament high 15 steals, helping Rice outscore its opponents 40-14 in its first four games.
