Week
10-9 Chris Warnecke,
Virginia Tech
Chris Warnecke put up 19 goals total in four games for the Hokies, including
seven against Duke. He contributed to defense by putting tremendous
pressure on the ball and led a constant counterattack. Teams had to
concentrate on defending him because of his scoring threat, as a result
his teammates received more scoring opportunities.
9-25 Jeremy Bergman,
James Madison University
Jeremy scored seven goals in JMU's 16-5 defeat of Georgetown over the
weekend. He led a constant counterattack that wore-down on the Hoya
defense both physically and mentally. JMU handed Georgetown its first
regular season defeat in over two years.

Player of the Week
10-9 Derek Mapes,
Florida State University
Derek Mapes led Florida State with 15 goals in four games at
the Florida Division in Tallahassee this past weekend. The Seminoles
went 3-1 on the weekend due to his goal scoring and excellent defensive
play.

10-9 Travis Crow,
University of Minnesota
Travis Crow played an outstanding game at two-meter offense,
and contributed immensely to the team defensive effort. He strongly
led Minnesota as they battled against the University of South Dakota,
a team with a roster double the size of the Gophers', into overtime,
eventually losing 11-12. Minnesota went 3-1 on the weekend.

Atlantic Division Player of the Week
10-30 Mike Gordon,
Villanova University
Sophomore Mike Gordon put in an outstanding performance this
past weekend as he helped lead the Wildcats to a Mid Atlantic Division
Championship, beating a great Penn State team 10-8. In the first two
games, despite limited playing time, he tallied a total of four goals,
drew three ejections, garnered four steals and had one assist against
Lehigh and Bloomsburg. In the championship game adainst the Nittany
Lions, Gordon stole three balls, tallied one assist and was instrumental
in the team's offense as he drew four ejections, all of which were converted
by the Wildcats for scores, one of which by Gordon himself. He also
scored an additional natural goal, giving him six goals for the weekend.
10-23 Matt Pietrantoni,
University of Pennsylvania
Senior Matt Pietrantoni led the comeback to defeat Villanova 11-10 on
Tuesday. With the Quakers down by five goals going into the fourth quarter,
Penn's defense turned it up a notch and created opportunities for Matt
to score five goals in the final seven minutes.
10-16 Greg Fox, Villanova
University
Greg stood out as the key player during the past week. His first impact
game came against Washington & Jefferson College, as he scored three
of the team’s eight goals to lead the squad to an 8-7 victory over the
Presidents. His most balanced game of the week came against Army, where
he scored twice, had four assists, stole three balls, and drew one ejection.
He followed that performance later in the week as the Wildcats edged
Millersville in overtime. Despite limited playing time, he scored three
goals, tallied two assists, drew three ejections, and had two steals.
His well balanced performance helped lead the squad to five wins in
their last seven outings.
10-9 Andy Turner,
University of Pennsylvania
Freshman Andy Turner scored eight goals and drew four kickouts as Penn
beat Millersville and Lafyette this past weekend. Penn's 20 steals for
over the course of both games helped contiribute to his offensive opportunities.
10-2 Brad Barron,
Villanova University
Brad Barron led Villanova to a third place finish at the 18th Annual
Wildcat Invitational behind a solid scoring effort over four games.
Opening up the weekend he put in a six-goal effort against Columbia
on just nine shots. During the evening game versus Yale, he had his
most complete game of the weekend, leading the Wildcats with four goals
as they edged the Bulldogs 10-8. He also drew one ejection, blocked
a shot, stole five balls and added one assist. The following morning
in a loss to Navy AC he tallied two goals, along with an assist and
two steals. Finishing up the tournament for third place, the Wildcats
faced Columbia again, where Barron tallied seven goals on eight shots,
as well as logging four steals and drawing one ejection.
9-25 Brad Barron,
Villanova University
Brad Barron led the Wildcats in their victory over cross-town rival
University of Pennsylvania, 11-7. He scored five goals on six shots
to lead the team in scoring and drew four ejections. In addition, he
tallied four steals and blocked two shots to limit the Quakers defensively.

England Division Player of the Week
10-9 Andrew Bassford,
Yale University
In the Yale Invitational Tournament championship game, pitting
Yale against Washington and Jefferson, Andrew Bassford added to his
legacy of fine goalkeeping by saving an incredible 25 shots. Although
Yale lost the game 15-14 in sudden death overtime, Andrew's efforts
in the cage, including two critical stops during the last minute of
regulation time, keyed a Yale comeback to force the overtime periods.
In other action, Andrew held the University of Toronto to 7 goals, blocking
12 shots.
10-9 Will Reid, Yale
University
Yale's 6'6" two-meter man saw his first action of the
season and made an immediate impact. In key games against Williams and
Amherst, Will netted five goals in each. Playing sparingly against Coast
Guard and Wesleyan, Will scored an additional five goals for a total
of 15 for the weekend. Will's presence was also felt on the defensive
end as Yale did not allow more than five goals from any opponent.

York Division Player of the Week
10-9 Peter Hitt,
New York University
Junior co-captain Peter Hitt lead NYU to a 4-1 record this past weekend
at the New York Division Inter-regional tournament at NYU. The utilityman
scored nine goals to go along with six assists while drawing four kickouts.
His efforts helped NYU achieve a No. 3 seed going into the division
championship.
North
Atlantic Division Player of the Week
10-23
Matt Derr, Dartmouth College
At the Yale tournament
this past weekend, Matt Derr ('04) scored 18 goals and had 15
assists as Dartmouth went 3-1 in the tournament besting Army 17-10,
Yale 14-13 and Toronto 14-4, with its only loss to Washington
and Jefferson in a hard fought 7-6 loss.
Derr was instrumental
in the offensive scheme of the Big Green, but also played tremendous
defense in holding off late runs by Army and Yale in games on
Saturday. He played in every minute of each game, except for the
fourth quarter of the Toronto game.

10-9 Adam Heller, Bates College
Adam Heller
was fantastic in goal for Bates, only allowing nine goals over the
weekend. His saves and dead-on breakout passing allowed the Bates
attack to convert 75% of their fast break chances. Heller's play
was instrumental in the 34 goals scored by the Bobcats this past
weekend. |

Ryan Goldhahn, senior
co-captain, led the Dartmouth Big Green to four consecutive wins
this past weekend, scoring a total of 16 goals and 22 assists
and dominating every defense he faced. |

Player of the Week
10-9 Brady Childs,
Oregon State University
Brady Childs had four goals that helped to clench the Beavers'
10-9 win against the University of Washington, and three goals in their
13-12 win against the University of Oregon. A team leader both in and
out of the water, he sets an example for his teammates with his terrific
work ethic.
Ohio
Valley Division
Player of the Week
10-23 Jacob Crossen,
Ohio University
Jacob Crossen scored eight goals this weekend at the Katy Kunsman
Memorial Invitational, and his contributions were recognized by players
and coaches alike as he was named to the All-Tournament Team. As Ohio's
two-meter defender, he caused numerous turnovers, forcing opponents
to work outside for an offense. The highlight play of the weekend was
a buzzer-beating lob shot from half-pool that tied Ohio with Western
Michigan at the half. Jake went on to score the game winner and a safety
goal in the fourth quarter, placing Ohio first in their bracket.
10-9 Andy Rennels,
Miami University (OH)
Freshman Andy Rennels (Toledo, Ohio) played well at the University
of Michigan tournament this past weekend, despite Miami's 6th place
finish. With several players out due to illness and injury, Andy filled
in as a starter, scoring seven goals and tallying three assists. He
also drew two four-meter penalties. After making his presence felt to
the team, Andy will likely be a contributing player for Miami at championships.
10-2 Kyle Perry,
Miami University (OH)
Junior Kyle Perry (Oak Park, Il.) scored 10 goals and tallied
numerous assists and steals, as Miami University finished 3rd at their
own Kyle McGarity Classic. Stepping his play up in the third place game,
Kyle's two goals put Miami over the top in their 13-12 win over Indiana.
9-25 Garrett Smith,
Miami University (OH)
Sophomore Garrett Smith dominated the Dayton tournament last
weekend. With Garrett leading the team in goals, Miami's A-team won
all their games, defeating both Dayton and Ohio University. Garrett'soffense
will be crucial at Miami's home tournatment this weekend.
9-18 Matt Williams,
Miami University (OH)
Freshman goalie Matt Williams stepped in for senior Kent Chesko
during the Hillbilly Invite in Knoxville. He had 38 saves during the
four games played. He also had six one-on-one stops. While practicing
Tai Chi on deck before each game, this goalie finds his inner strength
and focuses on fortifying his team through his play in goal.
Pacific
Coast Division Player of the Week
10-16 John Leary,
Saint Mary's College
John Leary, sophomore two-meter player, scored 14 goals this weekend
at the Vallejo regional tournament including a school record of 10 goals
against UCSD in Saint Mary's 13-7 victory.
10-9 John Leary,
St. Mary's College
John Leary achieved all-tournament honors at the Cal Tech Invitational
this past weekend. He led St. Mary's throughout the tournament with
nine goals, ten steals, and drew six ejections in three games.
10-2 Jamie Clark,
UCLA
UCLA goalie Jamie Clark guided the Bruins to a 4-0 start in
the Pacific Coast Division regular season opening weekend. Jamie led
the Bruins defense, limiting the opponents to mere 4.3 goals a game,
while spearheading a steady counterattack.
Southeast
Division
Player of the Week
10-23 Logan McLeod,
Georgia Institute of Technology
A new face on the Yellowjacket squad, Logan studied at UCSB
for undergrad and is now a graduate student at Tech. Logan has added
much needed leadership and experience to Tech, leading them to a win
at the division championship this weekend. He averaged four goals, six
steals, and four assists in three games this weekend.
10-9 Chris George,
Georgia Institute of Technology
Chris George joined Georgia Tech last year after growing up
in Trinidad and Tobago and has been a dominant two-meter player since
coming to Atlanta. This season Chris came back from a summer in Barcelona
20 pounds lighter, with endurance added to his power and speed. Chris
played excellently this weekend, leading the team in goals with 15.
His greatest contribution was on defense, making more than 12 steals
and forcing turnovers with a tight press. Chris also lead the team in
ejections drawn with 10. Georgia Tech finished 4-0 again this weekend
and is the division's top seed going into the championship.
10-2 David Nicol,
Georgia Institute of Technology
Dave Nicol has been a contributing member of Georgia Tech for
several years. With the loss of several key players last season, Dave
has stepped up. He has become a leader in and out of the water and has
settled in to the hole defense position last weekend, shutting
down the opponents offense. With Georgia Tech's goalie out for the weekend,
all the weight was on his shoulders. Dave allowed only seven shots on
goal from the two-meters and had over 20 steals on the weekend. When
the Yellowjackets fell behind in the first half of three games, Dave
was the leader in the water that motivated Tech to fight back and finish
with a perfect 4-0 record.
9-25 Ben Slater,
University of Tennessee
Ben Slater had an outstanding weekend in goal this weekend,
helping the Volunteers earn a 3-1 record in the first round of division
play. He had 31 saves over the course of three games, with his best
performance coming against the Georgia Tech Yellowjackets, where he
blocked two of three penalty shots to force that game into double overtime.
He allowed only 16 goals on 59 shots all weekend.
9-18 Ross Flemming,
University of Tennessee
Ross Flemming has matured into a solid water polo player over
the last three years. In the first weekend of his senior season, he
served as the defensive anchor at the two-meter position. His solid
defensive play kept hole shots down to a minimum and cut down on the
Volunteer goalie's usually busy workload. He was only credited with
one goal and two steals this weekend, but his presence and direction
in the field increased both the defensive and offensive production of
all those around him. His effectiveness as a player on his team cannot
be accurately measured by the stats at the end of the game, but rather
by the score. Tennessee finished 2-2 this weekend, never giving up more
than eight goals to teams with overwhelming offensive firepower.
Southwest
Division Player of the Week
10-2 David Nicol,
Georgia Institute of Technology
Eric Qualls,
a sophomore transfer, led the Wildcats to victory at the Miami Classic.
Building on his impressive debut last week, Qualls led the Arizona attack.
Qualls scored 14 goals, tallied 11 assists, drew 3 kickouts, and stole
the ball 18 times. Qualls's effort enabled the Wildcats to overcome
#7 Michigan State, #8 Indiana, and #3 Michigan en route to the championship.
The 6'2" 152 lbs. driver relied on his speed and cunning to make
an impact, as he dominated teams on both offense and defense. Qualls
also showed his ability
to play big in big games by hitting three buzzer beaters, adding to
the four he tallied last weekend.
Texas
Division Player of the Week
10-9
Mitch Halquist, University of Texas
Mitch has consistently led the UT offense during the 2003 CWPA
season as the high scorer during both regular season tournaments this
season. During the two tournaments he has averaged 9 goals, 8 assists,
and 4 drawn ejections. In addition to being an offensive threat Mitch
has had several steals on both weekends, helping the Longhorns to a
No. 2 seed in the division championship.

Tom Andrew, University of Texas
Tom Andrew had a phenomenal CWPA tournament on September 27
and 28. The UT team went 3-1 with the only loss coming to rival Texas
A&M with a close final score of 6-5. He swam the majority of UT’s
sprints without a loss and was one of the primary two-meter defenders
for the team, receiving only had two ejections on the weekend. Additionally,
Tom aided the offense with aggressive driving that led to three goals
for the tournament.
Heartland
Division Player of the Week
4-24 Lisa Lendway,
Macalester College
Macalester senior Lisa Lendway (St. Paul, MN) led the Scots to an 11-4
victory over Wheaton this weekend. She led the defense with four steals
and offensively added three assists and a goal to secure the victory.
4-17
Hayley Campbell, Macalester College
Macalester junior Hayley Campbell (New London, N.H.) led the Scots to
the Heartland Championship this weekend. Playing in front of the home
crowd she tallied 12 goals --including 5 in the championship game, 4
assists 3 steals and a field block.
3-6
Emma Hansen, Macalester College
Junior Emma Hansen, (Haverford, Pa.), led the Scots in Heartland Division
action this weekend. Over the course of four games she had 12 steals,
including a school record 8 in the game vs. Knox, 11 goals and 4 ejections
drawn.
Mid
Atlantic Division Player of the Week
4-17 Fabiana Eggers,
University of Pennsylvania
In her last tournament for Pennsylvania, Fabiana displayed the dominance
that has been characteristic of her play for the last two years. In
three games, Fabiana scored 11 goals, adding three assists and drew
11 ejections, she also added 12 steals. Beyond her contributions in
the water, Fabiana proved herself invaluable with her leadership throughout
the weekend. Thanks to Fabiana's stellar play in two-meters, Penn was
able to beat IUP 14-3 and Penn State 13-9 before losing to Virginia
in the championship game 10-6. The Quakers finished second place overall,
Penn's highest ever finish in the Mid Atlantic Division.
4-3 Oveida Norris,
University of Pennsylvania
Junior captain Oveida Norris led by example this weekend as Penn finished
the regular season at 6-2, securing the second seed going into Mid Atlantic
Championships. In four games Norris was a steady force on offense as
she scored seven goals, tallied eight assists and drew two ejections.
She proved equally as productive on the defensive end at
two-meter defense where she grabbed 23 steals. In the final game of
the tournament, Norris displayed her versatility as she contributed
three goals, two assists, 11 steals, and drew one ejection to lead the
Quakers to a 6-5 win over defending champion Maryland.
2-27 Brigit Lawrence-Gomez,
University of Pennsylvania
Freshman Brigit Lawrence-Gomez made her college debut for Pennsylvania
as the Quakers finished the weekend 4-0. Lawrence-Gomez tallied 24 blocks
in two games minding net as Penn faced off against IUP and Penn State.
Against IUP Brigit allowed just one goal. Three of her blocks came as
Penn faced several four-on-six situations. As Penn faced Penn State,
she stopped State's last four shots on goal in the second overtime period
to preserve a one goal lead and the win for Penn. She also contributed
two steals and two goals playing field in Penn's other two games of
the weekend. Thanks to her contributions on both ends of the pool, the
Quakers were able to open the season undefeated for the first time.
Midwest
Division Player of the Week
4-17 Megan Baloy,
Miami University (OH)
Goalie Megan Baloy (Senior - Columbus, Ohio) set the pace Friday night
that both Miami 'A' and Miami 'B' would have to uphold all weekend long.
Megan made several blocks as Miami 'B' lost to Notre Dame. She then
played a crucial part in the 'B' team's 1 goal loss to OU. By the end
of Saturday, Megan had the B team poised to play for seventh place.
After watching the 'A' team win the Midwest Division championship, Megan
and the 'B' team got down to business in the seventh place game against
Western Michigan. Assisting 3 goals from the cage, Megan played an important
part of both the offense and the defense. With time running out and
Miami down by one, Megan blocked a four meter and then assisted on the
game tying goal to send the game into overtime. Megan will now join
the rest of the 'A' team as they travel to nationals to represent the
Midwest Division.
4-10 Carmen Younger,
Miami University (OH)
Sophomore Carmen Younger (Kentwood, MI) was a vital part of Miami's
success at their home tournament this weekend. Carmen began the weekend
by leading Miami over their Midwest Division Rival Notre Dame 5-4. In
the previous two meetings between the teams, Notre Dame had won by one
goal both times. The two teams will be likely match up again this coming
weekend at CWPA Midwest Championships. Carmen was also a major player
in Miami's win over Northwestern and almost sent the 3rd place game
against Purdue into overtime. Miami finished fourth over all, falling
6-5 to Purdue in the 3rd place game.
3-27 Hillary Robnick,
Miami University (OH)
Sophomore Hillary Robnick led Miami's 'A' team to a record of 4-0 at
Eastern Michigan, this past weekend. In the goal she recorded 20 saves,
allowing only 10 goals in. She blocked one four-meter penalty shot and
recorded her first shut out of the season. This is her first year in
the goal and she is proving how valuable she will be. Even just as spectacular
was her field play during the Miami 'B' team's games. Playing in the
field she recorded 5 goals, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Hillary was a big
part of the 'B' team's win over Bowling Green State.
2-13 Alison Schoeff,
Eastern Michigan University
Freshman Alison Schoeff (Ypsilanti, MI) tallied nine saves against the
Michigan State University ‘B’ team in the first game of the Spartan
Invitational. She helped solidify the first ever win for Eastern Michigan
University, 7-5, by holding off a strong charging MSU team and killing
multiple 6-5 attempts. Schoeff also tallied eight saves against Ohio
State University en route to the second ever win for Eastern Michigan
University, 10-9. Schoeff tallied 35 saves for the tournament.
This is the first year of
water polo for Schoeff and the MSU game was the fourth game she has
ever played from the cage.

York Division Player of the Week
4-3 Jamie Wheatley,
New York University
Senior driver Jamie Wheatley achieved water polo's version of the "Triple
Double" this past weekend at Colgate University. Wheatley, a tri-captain,
had 14 goals, 12 assists and 12 steals to lead the Lady Bobcats to an
undefeated weekend and a #2 seed for the upcoming New York Division
Championship.
Northwest
Division Player of the Week
3-13 Cecily Morgan-Jonker,
Simon Fraser University
Cecily Morgan-Jonker led Simon
Fraser in scoring in its undefeated performance at the Northwest Division
Regional this weekend. The team defeated University of Washington "A"
and "B", Western Washington and Western Oregon en route to
its 4-0 record to open the CWPA season. Morgan-Jonker's teammates praise
her leadership and ability to make those who play with her better.

Division Player of the Week
4-10 Jessica Frizell,
Emory University
Emory University sophomore, Jessica Frizell (Piedmont, CA), continued
her consistent season this past weekend at the Miami(OH) Invitational.
She led the Eagles in goals scored (7) and shooting percentage (64%)
over Emory's four games from the two-meter set position, including a
team victory over nationally ranked Illinois (#16). Jessica's level
of play helped the Eagles to their best finish ever at the annual tournament,
as they prepare the upcoming Southeastern Championships.
3-20 Kristina Jones,
Emory University
Emory freshman, Kristina Jones
(Zionsville, IN), came in to her own this past weekend as an up and
coming goalie at the Florida Atlantic Invitational. In her two games
in the net, Kristina posted a 69% save percentage, including a career
high of 14 saves in one contest, to help secure her first career win
as a goalie for the Eagles. Kristina's performance helped Emory to a
one and two record for the weekend as she continues to raise her level
of play with every shot blocked.
2-20 Meghan Jackson,
Emory University
Emory University sophomore,
Meghan Jackson (Lake Oswego, OR), showed her tenacity from the 2-meter
set position at the Southeast Regional this past weekend. Statistically,
she led the Eagles in shots taken (11), goals scored (7), assists (6)
and ejections drawn (6), giving Emory an advantage in the middle on
offense. Meghan's efforts wore down teams throughout the tournament
and helped Emory to the 2nd seed in the upcoming Southeast Division
Championship.
