Atlantic Division Player of the Week
10-24 Lee Conant, Georgetown
University
Lee Conant tallied
15 goals in three games as Georgetown University went
undefeated for a second time, and ran their record to 8-0 overall, in the
Atlantic
Division Regionals at Villanova, securing the number one seed in the Atlantic
Division Championships. Lee's best performance came against 17th ranked
James Madison University, scoring seven goals and drawing the majority of
eight
kickouts while playing two-meters in the Hoyas' 14-8 victory.
10-10 Kevin Murphy,
James Madison University
Goaltender Kevin
Murphy turned in a strong performance for the Dukes in the first
Atlantic Division regional tournament at James Madison. Kevin allowed just
18
goals in four games, leading the team to a perfect 4-0 record. In JMU's 15-4
victory over the #6 Richmond Spiders, he provided the defensive spark the
team
needed for the win.
Great Plains Division Player of the Week
Team co-captain Mike Kerber scored 13 goals in the University of Missouri's
first
four games of CWPA competition. He also averaged two assists per game and
ignited
showing at the Great Plains Division Southern Regional at Western Illinois
University this weekend.
Heartland Division Player of the Week
Over the course of the season, goaltender Tony Gruenke has held opposing teams
to an average of five goals per game. This past weekend in the Heartland Divison
Championships, he gave up five goals versus St. John's and recorded 18 blocks.
In his second game he led the team to a 19-6 victory over St. Olaf. To this
point in
the season he has recorded 84 blocks in seven games.
Junior goaltender Joe Hanes stopped 55 shots in four games as Macalester
College recorded a 2-2 record in Heartland Regional Competition at Knox College
in Galesburg, Illinois. Hanes best performance came against St. John's University,
allowing just 5 goals in the Fighting Scots' victory.
Mid Atlantic Division Player of the Week
11-21 Rick Mida, Villanova
University
Co-Captain Rick Mida
led the Wildcats to a second place finish at the National
Championships in Gainesville, Florida with an outstanding performance offensively.
In four games he scored 14 goals on just 22 shots, including a four-goal
performance in the finals versus Cal Poly, where he shot 66% against the
tournament MVP. He also drew two ejections, garnered five steals, made two
assists and only committed three penalties during the course of the tournament.
10-31 Ryan Postas,
Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Ryan Postas
led his team with 35 goals, 15 steals and five blocks at the Mid
Atlantic Division Championships. Postas excelled both physically and mentally,
helping the unexperienced players on his team learn and understand the rules
of the game. His most notable performance came against Widener, scoring
nine goals and putting up a solid defensive effort in Indiana's 12-11 victory
for
Seventh place in the division.
10-24 David Robinson,
Bloomsburg University
Senior David
Robinson's all-around play led the Huskies to a 3-1 record over
the weekend. He recorded 5 goals, including 3 in the quadruple overtime loss
to Division co-leader Penn State. He was most noticeable on defense, frustrating
opposing two-meter players both with his fronting skills and his steals by
coming
off the perimeter.
With Lycoming playing the weekend without two starters, senior two-meter man
Chris Rager took it upon himself to lead Lycoming in the pool. Rager loomed
largest in Lyco's 17-12 win over conference rival Widener, tallying nine goals and
assisting on three others. In four games this weekend, he found the net 23 times,
drew three ejections and grabbed seven steals.
10-10 Donald Kwon,
University of Pennsylvania
Penn senior
Donald Kwon had three great performances this weekend against
YAA, RIT, and 11th ranked U.S. Military Academy. Don tallied 12 goals in
three games, seven in Penn's 16-10 win over RIT. Don drew four ejections
in a tight game against Army, and in total drew six ejections and two
four-meter penalty shots over the weekend. Additionally, Don chipped in five
steals and three assists.
10-3 Mike Lucarz, Villanova
University
Freshman Mike Lucarz
helped Villanova to a 12-10 victory over
Widener this week with a terrific performance at two-meters. He shot a
perfect three for three, while also earning one steal, one assist, and
drawing one ejection.
9-26 Rick Mida, Villanova University
Co-Captain Rick Mida
led the Wildcats to an undefeated weekend against
several Top 20 teams. He opened with a five goal performance against #10
Michigan, where he helped his team to a 14-9 victory. During the remainder
of
the weekend, he scored an additional seven goals against Penn State, Yale,
and Grand Valley State, despite not playing a portion of several games in
favor of giving other athletes playing time. He also tallied six assists and
drew three kickouts.
Midwest Division Player of the Week
10-17 Jon Patterson,
Grand Valley State University
Jon, a freshman, helped
lead the Lakers to a 3-1 record at last weekend's
Boilermaker Invitational at Purdue University. Jon's outstanding two-meter
defense helped key victories over Miami(OH), Indiana, and Michigan State.
He had 10 steals, three blocked shots, and played all but three minutes of
the
four matches. He also contributed three goals and two assists to the offensive
effort. Jon's timely play was sorely needed by a team depleted by injuries
and
absences.
10-10 Pat Lowman, Grand
Valley State University
Sophomore Pat
Lowman continued to lead the Lakers this weekend. Pat's
stellar performance included 11 goals and 11 assists in 4 games. Playing
primarily at two-meters, Pat skillfully ran the Laker offense and his timely
goals
against Notre Dame sealed a 12-7 win for GVSU. Pat also contributed by
drawing three exclusions and one four-meter penalty. His defense was excellent
as well, posting seven steals.
10-3 Nick
Lowman, Grand Valley State University
playing limited minutes in two out of three games, Nick scored 10 goals on
just
14 shots. This includes his dominating performance against Notre Dame, in
which he tallied four goals and added four assists. Nick also paced the defensive
effort with eight steals and two blocked shots. Nick was truly a leader for
the
Lakers and stepped up in the big games.
9-26 Mike
Peresie, Miami University (OH)
and 9 steals while only giving up a total of 14 goals over the entire weekend.
His
dominance in the goal led Miami's defense to a complete shutdown of all opponents
and led the squad to victory in all games during the tournament.
New England Division Player of the Week
10-31 Kam Shahid, Williams
College
Shahid emerged as the premier goalie
in the New England division this
weekend with several dominant performances. In the early rounds, he shut
out Coast Guard for a quarter and held Tufts to three goals in two and a
half quarters before giving way to his back-up. Sunday morning he came out
on top of a spectacular goalie duel with Yale's sophomore Andrew Bassford.
After letting in two goals in the first quarter, Shahid allowed only one
more goal all game, as the Ephs pulled out the upset 6-3. Just a few hours
later, he subdued Dartmouth's outside shooters through three quarters,
before Williams succumbed to ejections and fast breaks. His passes fueled
the
Ephs' counterattack all weekend.
10-10 Ryan Goldhahn,
Dartmouth College
Sophomore Ryan
Goldhahn continued his stellar CWPA play, scoring 13 goals
at the New England Division regional competition for host Dartmouth College.
The
Big Green completed an undefeated regular season and enter the New England
Division Championships as the #1 seed.

Goldhahn scored
12 goals as Dartmouth College went 4-0 at
the New England Division Northern Regional competition at Middlebury College
this weekend. The only Dartmouth player to score at least one goal in each
game,
his high goal game was five, versus host Middlebury.
New York Division Player of the Week
10-3
Lawrence Park, United States Military Academy
Junior Lawrence Park led the Army offensive attack and was responsible
for leading
the Cadets to a second undefeated CWPA weekend. He scored 23 of Army's 92
goals
and anchored an Army defense that allowed just 20 goals in four games.
9-26 Paul Blanton, United States Military Academy
Paul Blanton set the pace for Army, scoring five goals in the team's offensive
outbursts
against Cornell and in the first Columbia game. During the second Columbia
contest
and the Union match-up he stepped back and used his position as team captain
to
coach Army to victories, allowing the more junior members of the team to gain
valuable
playing time.
9-19 Josh
Nauman, Rochester Institute of Technology
New York Division Western Regional in Rochester. Josh scored 31 of RIT's 41
goals,
while also anchoring RIT's defense that allowed just 23 goals in four games.
North Atlantic Division Player of the Week
10-10 Mark Hanson,
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Mark Hanson,
junior goaltender, had an inspiring performance that led WPI to
an 8-7 victory over Bowdoin College. WPI posted a 3-1 record in the season's
second tournament and enter the North Atlantic Division Championships as the
#3 seed.
Northwest Division Player of the Week
10-17 Josh Newell, University of WashingtonJosh Newell led Washington to four victories in the Northwest CWPA tournament
at Washington State University. In just three games, Newell scored 10 goals and
assisted on eight others. His all-around play led the Huskies both defensively and
offensively.
Pacific Coast Division Player of the Week
Southeast Division Player of the Week
10-31 Zach Cox, University
of Florida
Zach Cox, goalie for the University
of Florida, anchored his team to their sixth straight
division title last weekend. In three games, he allowed only seven goals and
recorded
16 saves while finishing off an undefeated conference schedule.
10-10 Alex Lopez, University
of Florida
Senior Alex
Lopez led his team to another 4-0 weekend and the Southeast Division
lead. In four games, Alex had 17 goals, including seven in the school record
breaking
performance in the final game of the weekend against UCF. He added 10 assists
on
the weekend, and 15 steals. He also drew three ejections and one four-meter
penalty.
Southwest Division Player of the Week
10-3
Jarod Stentiford, University of Colorado
Jarod Stentiford scored five goals leading the #13 Buffaloes to an upset
of 4th
ranked University of Arizona. Colorado also defeated Colorado School of Mines
and Colorado State to post a 3-1 record in the first weekend of play for the
CWPA Southwest Division in Golden, Colorado.
Texas Division Player of the Week
9-26 Zach Stinson, Texas A&M University
Junior Zach Stinson tallied 16 goals and averaged five steals per game in the Aggies'
4-0 showing at the Texas Division Regional this weekend. He also proved to be a
defensive force, not allowing a single goal at the two-meter position.
Heartland Division Player of the Week
4-11-01 Karin Halvorson,
Macalester College
Halvorson, a senior from Mililani, Hawaii, scored four goals and had 24 steals
in two games at the Heartland Division Championships. Defensively she allowed
no goals from opposing two-meter players, ensuring her team the Division Title.
Mid Atlantic Division Player of the Week
4-25-01 Elizabeth Greig, University of Pennsylvania
Penn's
captain led the
wo-meters this past weekend during the Mid Atlantic Division Championships.
As the lone senior on this
as the Quakers
Seed Virginia. In three games, Greig drew 18 kickouts
and scored four goals. Greig also led the team in assists with eight and
tallied six steals, again proving
and defense.
4-11-01 Elizabeth Greig, University of Pennsylvania
As Penn played it's fifth game in four days, Greig scored one goal and
recorded two assists at two-meters for the Quakers. She also had three
steals and drew two kickouts as Penn faced non-conference opponent
Villanova. 4-4-01 Erin Burlovich, James Madison University
Burlovich distinguished herself in all aspects this weekend, leading
the Dukes to a 3-1 record that included a victory over nationally ranked
Penn State, 10-7. Offensively she scored 13 goals and tallied five
assists, while winning every swim-off she attempted. On the defensive
end her play was solid as well, as she led the team in steals, securing
a second place seed heading into the championships. 2-28-01 Dana Cartieri, Indiana University of Pennsylvania
While overmatched in their games against league powers Penn State
and Pennsylvania, Indiana University of Pennsylvania had a bright sport
in their lineup. Dana Cartieri scored seven goals and tallied three assists
and recorded ten steals in an outstanding effort, as she led her team in
both her performance and her attitude.

England Division Player of the Week
4-4-01 Jordan
Kushins, Boston College
Kushins, a Junior two-meter
set for the Eagles led BC to a 3-1 record in weekend
play, helping to secure a second place finish for BC in the northern region.
En route
to wins over Wesleyan University, Bates College, and Boston University, Kushins
drew three four-meter penalties, along with five ejections. Kushins was a
major
scoring threat as well, posting ten goals and tallying six assists in four
games.
3-7-01 Andrea
Harsanyi, MIT
Harsanyi led the
Engineers to an undefeated performance against three league
opponents including Holy Cross, Wellesley, and Boston University. Offensively
she
scored a record 19
steals. She also won every
sprint.
New York Division Player of the Week
4-4-01 Christa Hattich, Columbia
University
Christina Hattich paved the way for the Lady Lions this weekend
with 16 goals, four assists, and seven steals. Her contributions
helped Columbia go undefeated, posting wins over Colgate, Utica,
Cornell, and Bloomsburg, thereby securing a first-place finish in the
standings.

Pacific Coast Division Player of the Week
3-14-01 Meghan Browne, Sonoma
State University
During four league games,
Browne had 11 goals, drew four ejections, tallied three
steals, and posted five assists in a dominating performance. She was the key
figure
for her team in their victories over UCLA, Chico State, Utah, and Fresno State.
Southeast Division Player of the Week
4-18-01 Kate Bowler, Emory University Freshman Kate Bowler (San Fransisco, CA.) had 12 steals and five goals this
past weekend at the 2001 UNC Invitational. She has led the team in steals each
tournament this season and is the team leader in this category by an impressive
18 overall. Defensively, Kate was not scored on at set during three straight games,
helping Emory earn wins over James Madison and Wisconsin. 3-28-01 Erica Mitchell, Emory University
Erica Mitchell helped pace the Eagles during their recent games at the Miami (OH)
Invitational. She scored a career best seven goals on only ten shots during their
four games, including the goal that tied the game in the fourth quarter against Ohio
State. Her performance helped the Eagles earn some much needed respect
against three top 20 programs. 2-28-01 Jennifer Hull Emory University
Jennifer Hull, scored a team high nine goals during four games this weekend,
shooting 43% from the field (a career best). She also drew seven ejections and
garnered six steals, proving her worth in more than one area of the pool. She
helped pace the Eagles to a second seed for the upcoming Southeastern
Division Championships in April.
Southwest Division Player of the Week
3-14-01 Eileen McFadden, Colorado
School of Mines
Before the tournament held at Northern Arizona University, Eileen had never
played a game of water polo. Fortunately for CSM, her debut effort left little
doubt she
has found her calling. During the four games, she scored one goal against
nationally
ranked Arizona State and three goals and an assist against Colorado State.
She also
added two assists during the game against nationally ranked University of
Arizona.
Although her team's talent level and depth were less than desired, her attitude
and defensive play helped the Orediggers remain competitive.

Women's Varsity Player of the Week
4-25-01Jesse Gunderson,
Harvard University
Senior Captain Jesse Gunderson excelled in all aspects of play, as she
scored four goals, tallied four assists, and drew six ejections. Defensively
she also earned a total of eight steals. What makes her performance all the
more exceptional is the fact that most of her teammates were suffering from
sickness, leaving half the starting line-up out of the water. Her effort was
an
integral part to keeping the Crimson competitive.
4-11-01 Adele McCarthy-Beauvais,
Princeton University
McCarthy-Beauvais helped earn the Tigers their second Southern Division
Championship in as many years last weekend, turning in a dominating offensive
performance. She scored 15 goals, including a five goal tally against Indiana
in
the semifinals. She came back in the finals against Nationally ranked Michigan
and topped her earlier performance by scoring six against the Wolverines.
4-4-01 Megan
Perry, University of Massachusetts
Junior Megan Perry (Fresno, Calif.) scored six goals in three games as the
No. 18 University of Massachusetts women's water polo team went 2-1 this
weekend at the Indiana Invitational. UMass defeated No. 17 Indiana (9-6)
and Michigan State (9-8), but fell to No. 13 Michigan (10-8). Perry scored
three versus Michigan, two versus Indiana and one versus Michigan State.
3-28-01 Melissa Karjala,
University of Michigan
Melissa Karjala helped the Wolverines continue their undefeated ways, as she
led
her team in four more victories. In her first game against Slippery Rock she
scored
three goals and garnered three steals, shooting 75%. The second game of the
tournament she led her team past top ranked Indiana in overtime, drawing two
ejections and scoring one goal. During the rematch the following day, Karjala
went
three for five, including the game tying score that forced overtime. In the
fourth and
final
Defensively, she had two steals, while drawing two ejections and scoring twice.
3-21-01
Kelly Chassy, University of Massachusetts
Kelly Chassy, a sophomore from Morgan Hill, California, was the standout
player
this week, scoring seven goals in three games as UMass swept their opponents.
Chassy scored three goals in the 10-5 win over Harvard, two in the 10-9 win
over
No. 18 ranked Brown, and two in the 18-5 win over Connecticut College. Her
contribution
was instrumental in moving UMass up one spot in the Top 20 Poll to number
18.
3-7-01 Mia Fabian,
George Washington University
2-28-01 Julie McLaughlin, Bucknell University
Helping her team to go undefeated in three straight games,
co-captain Julie McLaughlin
led her team in victory over Grove City, Slippery Rock and Salem
process, she scored 11 goals and tallied seven assists, while earning 11 steals
to shore
up the Bison's defense.
2-14-01
Sonia Lamel, Brown University
Sonia had seven steals
and scored nine goals during their competition last weekend,
including an unbelievable effort where she scored five against Ivy League
rival,
Princeton University. While only a freshman, her defense and all around play
showed
the poise of a veteran player.
