STAPLES HIGH SCHOOL SEEKS HEAD & ASSISTANT WATER POLO COACHES (2-13-09)

Staples High school, located in Westport Ct and recently voted “Best High School in Ct.” is seeking the following positions for its water polo programs:

Assistant Coach for Girls' Varsity/Coed Water Polo
Assistant Coach to work with Head Water Polo Coach (and Varsity Girls’ Swim Coach) during the spring season. We are seeking someone with a strong water polo and swimming background, thorough knowledge of the game, desire to work with high school age players, strong emphasis on sportsmanship and interest in developing the game of water polo. Responsibilities to include assisting Head Coach in all aspect of running practices, fitness/dry land training, game strategy and organizing matches against other teams. Our team consists of approximately 35 players, female and male of differing playing abilities. We compete against prep schools, clubs and high schools in the Ct area via games and tournaments each season. Spring practice hours are Mondays to Fridays from 2:30 to 4:30 pm and Saturdays from 8:30 to 10:30 am. This position can be part time or full time.

Head Coach for New Boys’ Water Polo Club
Due to the strong interest and the growing numbers in the girls’/coed program mentioned above, a boys’ water polo club was established last fall. We had approximately 20 players of varying experience and competed in inter-school matches and tournaments in our area. The team showed tremendous progress in the course of the season and strong interest for next fall. As a result, we are seeking a head coach to launch and develop this new program. Responsibilities are similar to the position above but as Head Coach in this case. Practice times are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 to 7:00 pm and Saturday mornings (times to be confirmed.)

Both positions are paid and enjoy strong support from the parent groups of each team.
